The OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental certification evaluates the knowledge and skills necessary to create a foundational SysML model for a system. This exam encompasses model concepts and organization, basic requirements capture and management, structural and behavioral modeling, parametric models, allocation relationships, and the application of stereotypes. With the knowledge and skills acquired at this level, combined with proficiency in a suitable SysML modeling tool, an individual holding the OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental Certification can effectively contribute to modeling tasks within a Systems Engineering team utilizing a model-based systems engineering approach with SysML. The OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental Certification serves as a prerequisite for the two higher levels of the program and requires the OCSMP Model User Certification as its entry requirement.

This examination (along with others in the OCSMP series) assesses your capability to apply the listed knowledge and skills within the context of a system model. As you prepare, look beyond individual diagrams to understand how the aspects they model can influence or affect other aspects of the system represented in different diagram types.

The OCSMP Model Builder – Intermediate exam assesses the knowledge and skills required to develop system models using the comprehensive SysML feature set. This proficiency allows for more detailed and accurate modeling of requirements, structure, behavior, and parametric constraints compared to those addressed at the Fundamental level. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate the ability to organize complex models, define relationships among model elements and diagrams, and evaluate aspects of model quality, including adherence to language and method constraints. The level of knowledge tested by this certification, combined with a corresponding level of expertise in model-based systems engineering methods and tools, is suitable for a System Modeling Lead on a project and for top-tier team members who contribute independently to the model or system, such as a Lead Systems Engineer. The OCSMP Model Builder - Intermediate Certification serves as a prerequisite for the program's highest certification, OCSMP Model Builder – Advanced, and requires the OCSMP Model Builder – Fundamental certification as its prerequisite.
